Niomi Russell Killed By Drive-By Shooters In Southeast DC

No arrests have been made by the Metropolitan Police Department after a teen girl was shot and killed in Southeast DC overnight, officials say.

Northwest DC resident Niomi Russell, 15, has been identified by investigators as the child found shot and killed on Sunday night inside an apartment building in the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE.

Officers responded to the building shortly after 10:45 p.m. on April 14, when thy heard gunshots, and while they were investigating they found Russell inside a building suffering from gunshot wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the investigation determined that unknown suspects opened fire from a vehicle targeting people outside the building. After the shots rang out, the girl ran inside the building, where she was found and ultimately died.

No information about possible shooters or a motive has been released by the department. The fatal shooting remains under investigation.
